Okay, so this is what will hopefully be the first of many posts to the blog. As the little Intro box on the right says, this is 'Make Like A Tree', which is a little project myself and the missus have drawn up which will see us attempting to circumnavigate the globe whilst we still can and, where possible, actually travel through the world rather than bounce over it on a plane, like a stone skimming over a pond. It's a massive undertaking, and takes a bit of planning to say the least, so the idea is that what we do, what we find out, how we go about it - pretty much everything! - we'll put in the blog. It won't just start with "Day One - Arrived in France", oh no, this is much more than just a diary because, thinking about it, Day One is today, the first day of the project coming alive, it's going to take a long, long time before we get all the way to France!
The idea is that the blog should serve as a platform to keep you informed as to our progress and also hopefully provide some help to anyone else looking at doing something similar. By sharing our expeirences, both good and bad, the mistakes and the sucesses, then hopefully we can make things little easier for others just as we are relying on others to help us too!
There's a lot of sort out, and it can almost be overwhemling: just where do we go? When should we go? How can we get there? How much will it cost? What do you need there? What is there to do? And these are just the big questions, once we've decided on these then it breaks down further: What documents do I need there? Where can I get that visa from? How much is the train to such-and-such? What's the exchange rate of that? And on and on and on.....
And who are we anyway? Why are we doing this? Why not just buy a RTW ticket and be done with it? Hopefully you'll find to find out and join us (metaphorically at least) on our adventure of a lifetime. Come on, join us, you know you want to!
So I guess the first question has to be asked. Just where will we go?
